No matter your budget, MCL and its partners can design, engineer and install automated conveyor systems, or an integrated conveyor solution incorporating; AS/RS, AGV’s and pick and pack solutions.
Key challenges in warehouse desgin
Warehouse layout is a complex undertaking that requires careful consideration of various factors to ensure optimal efficiency and productivity. It’s also difficult logistically to reorganise a warehouse once you’ve laid it out, so it pays to think carefully about optimal workflow, and potential future proofing. While planning, you’re bound to come across some common challenges.
One of the primary challenges in warehouse design is maximising space utilisation while still maintaining accessibility and ease of navigation. Traditional warehouse layouts can struggle to achieve this balance, resulting in wasted space and inefficient storage, or sacrificing comfort in order to maximise storage instead.
However, optimising workflow is crucial for warehouse operations to run smoothly and efficiently. Poorly designed workflows can lead to congestion, bottlenecks and delays in material handling processes. By carefully planning and designing workflow patterns, warehouse managers can minimise these issues and improve overall operational efficiency. Inefficient material handling can also lead to increased labour costs, longer lead times and decreased productivity overall. Conveyor systems play a crucial role in addressing these challenges by automating material transport and streamlining the movement of goods throughout the warehouse.
By investing in well-designed warehouse equipment and an intelligent layout, you’ll be able to create efficient material handling systems that both save space and make the facility more comfortable to navigate.
Benefits of warehouse conveyor systems
-
Automation of Material Handling: Warehouse conveyor systems automate tasks such as loading, unloading and sorting, reducing manual labour and minimising human error or injury.
-
Efficient Material Transport: These systems facilitate faster movement of goods throughout the warehouse, resulting in shorter lead times, faster order fulfilment and increased customer satisfaction.
-
Workflow Optimisation: Conveyor systems minimise congestion and bottlenecks in material handling processes, ensuring smooth operation and preventing delays.
-
Versatility and Scalability: Warehouse conveyor systems are highly versatile and scalable, allowing businesses to adapt to changing needs and accommodate future growth easily.
-
Improved Profitability: Investing in a warehouse conveyor system enhances overall productivity by automating processes, optimising workflow and providing operational flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
Designing a conveyor system is a multi-step process that requires careful planning and consideration of various factors. Firstly, our team thoroughly assesses your warehouse layout, considering factors such as available space, ideal or current workflow patterns, and possible material handling requirements.
As an example, a lot of warehouse systems across the logistics or distribution space have very basic gravity conveyors installed without much planning as to how they will actually optimise workflow. The focus here tends to be on Racking and Picking solutions, where it appears most of the budget goes. Overall the CAPEX is reduced by installing these conveyors, but the resulting operational costs are actually higher, with more labour required to drive, direct and handle goods. This means in many cases a powered conveyor will actually be cheaper to run long-term.
Based on our expertise and our assessment of your warehouse layout, we can propose a tailored conveyor solution that integrates seamlessly with your existing processes and infrastructure (if there are any). Our experienced engineers leverage cutting-edge design tools and software to optimise conveyor layouts, select the appropriate equipment, and ensure you’re happy with the design.
Conveyor systems offer a wide range of benefits for warehouse operations. One of the key advantages of conveyor systems is their ability to automate material handling processes, reducing the need for manual labour and speeding up the process of moving materials around your facility, with much less room for injury.
